Writers don’t talk about money. 💰
This is something Cheryl Strayed, who is the author of the #1 New York Times bestselling memoir Wild and Tiny Beautiful Things, said in a 2017 interview with Marie Forleo.
I’m a big fan of Strayed, and stumbling upon this “oldie” interview was a treat.
Here are some takeaways from this timeless interview:
When you are a writer and your books are selling well, people assume you are rich. That’s far from the truth. When Cheryl Strayed was on a book tour for Wild, her husband called her to tell her that their rent check had bounced because they didn’t have money in the bank.
You are never too big to get rejected.
Rejection still happens to the best of writers.
There are different ways to write. There are those who write every day and those who binge-write like Strayed. I’m personally in favor of writing every day (preferably early in the morning) so as not to break the habit.
Don’t let shame swallow you whole when you fail to write.

Put yourself in the way of beauty. There is always a sunrise.
