How podcasts changed my life
I haven't been happier after one of the most challenging years of my life.
During the pandemic, I fell in love with podcasts, and life has never been the same.
I was prompted to embrace podcasts when a friend of mine on a summer pandemic day told me, "I can't imagine our lives before podcasts," and that was when something lit in my mind. Why does he like podcasts so much?
So the next day, as I walked my dog, I pulled my AirPods, and instead of listening to music, as usual, I opted for the Podcast app on my iPhone.
At first, I didn't know what to choose, so I settled in for a true-crime show. After I had enough of the killing, the stabbing, and the cheating, I switched to the Tim Ferris show upon a friend's recommendation, and that's when everything changed.
I started listening to interviews with entrepreneurs, life coaches, innovators, and I was pulled in immediately. I began reading the books they recommended, followed their life advice, started to exercise and meditate, and eventually embarked on my own entrepreneurship journey.
I haven't been happier after one of the most challenging years of my life.
From Tim Ferris, I switched to Ryan Holiday, and then I started listening to Guy Raz and Lewis Howes and others, and I just couldn't stop. My brain was about to explode from all the knowledge I had acquired. I felt invigorated. Alive.
Thanks to podcasts, I became a better person since I learned the following life lessons:
Meditate daily: No, it's not a new-age fad; it has documented health benefits in reducing anxiety and the risk of heart disease.
Make exercise a priority if you want to live a healthier, happier life.
Never stop learning. My goal now is to read 50 books a year, following in the steps of Elon Musk, Bill Gates, and others.
Gain financial freedom: I want to run my business and run it well and eventually gain financial freedom that will allow me to live the kind of life that aligns with my values.
Surround yourself with positive people: Stay away from the naysayers and those who suck your energy and make you feel that the world is out to get you.
Those who know me, know what happened next; I started my own podcast a la Tim Ferris show and partnered with a long-time friend and journalist to interview Arab entrepreneurs, artists, and innovators. It has been an incredible journey filled with learning, inspiration, and new friendships.
