You know that voice inside of you that sometimes whispers:
“It’s too late. You missed the party. The ship has sailed.”
Yada yada yada.
Well, it's time to shut that voice down because it's nothing more than meaningless noise.
Repeat after me, It’s never too late to get started.
Take, for example, Laura Ingalls Wilder, who didn’t publish her first Little House book until she was 65, or Raymond Chandler, who began writing in his mid-40s after losing his job during the Great Depression. His first novel, The Big Sleep, introduced the world to Philip Marlowe and was published when he was 51.
Then there’s Frank McCourt, who turned his difficult Irish upbringing into Angela’s Ashes, a Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir published when he was 66.
To prove my point even further, let me introduce you to James Flaherty, an inspiring individual who, at 89, still has a 10-year plan!
Jim has authored four books, including his latest, Embrace Your Age, which reflects on aging with purpose and challenges the traditional notions of "feeling old."
In this episode of “Read and Write with Natasha podcast”, Jim shares his insights on staying active and positive through the years, along with stories of friends who chose a different path. His career kicked off in 1957 as a New York copywriter on a tight budget.
From NYC to Buenos Aires, Jim has navigated life and work all while balancing family and creative growth. Decades later, he’s still writing daily, proving that dedication can last a lifetime.
During the podcast, we explored Jim’s daily habits—simple routines that keep him grounded, healthy, and connected.
His story, along with other writing giants like Raymond Chandler and Frank McCourt serves as a powerful reminder that it's never too late to start writing your own story.
So, whether you’re 18 or 80, the best time to start is now.
The world is waiting to hear what you have to say.
