What are you waiting for? Hire an editor
A few months ago, I put my ego aside and hired an editor to work on my manuscript, "Karma Unleashed"- the first of a three-book supernatural thriller series I hope to publish soon.
I was hesitant about investing in an editor.
Many beta readers have already reviewed my manuscript, and I have been working on it for over three years.
Also, hiring an editor would entail spending a big chunk of money for a solopreneur like myself.
Why do I need to invest in an editor?
I kept telling myself.
After some rejections from agents and publishers, I bit the bullet and hired an editor.
When I got the edits back, I hesitated to open the Email. I didn't want to be disappointed first thing in the morning, so I sat on it and only opened it later that night. I thought at least if it was disappointing, it would not ruin my whole day.
When I finally looked at the edits, I was pleasantly surprised. The feedback was spot on. The editor even double-checked the Arabic words I threw in my manuscript ( I don't believe the editor speaks Arabic.)
Also, the editor's comments about some plot holes, the character development, and the language structure were right on the mark.
I felt like I was blindfolded, and the minute I hired an editor, these blindfolds were lifted off, and I could see the light.
I was astounded at how much I benefited from the feedback of this professional editor who has worked with veteran top sellers.
These days, I can't wait to start my day by working on the edits and suggestions that are eloquently spread out throughout the manuscript.
I hope that when I'm done implementing the editor's feedback, my novel will be picked by a traditional publisher this time around.
And if that doesn't happen, no biggie, I will go ahead and self-publish now that a professional has edited my manuscript.
Whether you want to self-publish or be published traditionally, investing in a professional editor is worth every penny.
